Officials from the U.S. and China will meet to discuss an arrangement where the two countries would share logistical resources, such as fuel, when working together during counterpiracy and humanitarian missions.
Air Force Brig. Gen. Mark McLeod told the American Forces Press Service the U.S. has formally invited senior Chinese logisticians to visit Washington in early 2013 to discuss the potential arrangement.
McLeod added the arrangement would cover fuel, food, supplies and could also cover vessel parts.
According to Donna Miles’ story, McLeod believes these developments could lead toward closer logistics collaboration where regional nations would partner together and respond to natural disasters and other events.
Both the U.S. and China are looking for ways to strengthen their military-to-military relationship, Miles reports, as Defense Secretary Leon Panetta recently visited China along with Navy Adm. Samuel J. Locklear III, commander of U.S. Pacific Command.
Pacom leaders proposed the idea of the U.S. and China working together last month during the 41st Pacific Area Senior Officer Logistics Seminar in Perth, Australia, according to AFPS.
